Ball Park Lingo - Post #2

In Game 2, the 1967 St. Louis Cardinals visit the 1948 Cleveland Indians.

During the broadcast, the announcer uses a lot of baseball lingo (slang).

Here are some examples.

“It’s Doby’s turn at the dish.”

“He’s not much of a long ball threat.”

“That ball is hit into the gap.”

“The throw comes into the cutoff man.”

“It’s a comebacker to the pitcher.”

“He boots the ball and the runner is safe.”

“Nice catch on the warning track in right field.”

“That’s Carter’s second big fly of the game.”

In case you’re wondering ……

No-one is volunteering to clean up the kitchen after a meal.

A ball didn’t roll into a popular clothing store.

And Carter wasn’t being pestered by insects.

So, here’s what we’ll do.

Below, you’ll read some lingo.

Following that, you’ll see some definitions.

In a mixed-up order, of course.

It’ll be your job to match them up correctly.

Easy peasy!

Oh, yeah.

Almost forgot.

You'll find the answers beneath the black & white photograph a few spaces down!

Have fun and good luck!
